Introduction of the Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery |
Korean Society of Otorhinoraryngology-Head and Neck Surgery was founded in 1947. It has grown into a large society with the number of members approaching 4,000 people. In addition, not only it has a growing number of people attending society conferences at the academic societies but also the congress has developed to a global level, recognized by academics and professionals around the world.
The Society will make further efforts to advance academic status, and hold Annual Meeting of Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery as an international congress from now on. The academic achievements of our Society have received international recognition, as evidenced by successful hosting of the 5th Asia-Oceania Congress of Otorhinolaryngological Society (1983), the 5th Asia-Pacific Congress on Deafness (1996), the 10th Congress of International Rhinologic Society 22nd International Symposium on Infection and Allergy of the Nose (2003), the 25th Politzer Society Meeting (2005), Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum Meeting (2007), the 6th Extraordinary International Symposium on Recent Advances in Otitis Media (2009), the 4th World Congress of International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (2010), the 4th World Voice Congress (2010), the 2nd and 8th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Cochlear Implant and Related Science (1999, 2011), Korea-Japan Joint Meeting of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and East Asian Conference on Phonosurgery. Just last year, the 20th World Congress of International Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies (IFOS) was held successfully thanks to the dedicated support and effort of our members. In addition, number of our papers published in international journals as well as their quality achieved level of excellence.

What is Campaign 'Y'? |
 |
The Y campaign was initiated to encourage public awareness of the various areas and diseases handled by the otolaryngology department. It aims to promote Otolaryngology as a specialized department in charge of all diseases related to ear, nose, head and neck surgery and diagnosis.
The symbol mark was designed as a part of the Y campaign, which will be used by all of the otolaryngology departments. The shape expresses a human face in its flow through the neck, ear, nose, and forehead in the form of a ribbon in an unbroken line. The design symbolizes how the ear, nose, head and neck are connected.
The plan also includes active engagement in policy proposal activities for patients who suffer from otolaryngology-related diseases and their convenience through ethical social contributions. Through this campaign, we are planning to make the public widely knows that otolaryngology is a specialized department engaged in colds and other diseases of the ear, nose, and head and neck to the diagnosis/surgery of the various types of diseases.
